The First Book in
The Historical Collection

Wealthy landowners own the Eastern Network, so uneducated witch Vittoria Gutia isn't about to make any waves.

She either works as a lavanda maid, or she and her beloved nephew starve to death.

That sort of math is pretty simple.

When an unexpected savior lands in her lap, fate falls with him. La Salvatorra—Giver of Justice—beckons her with him.

To save her nephew, Vittoria takes the reckless Landowners' soon-to-be-disastrous offer. She's thrust into a glittering new court, a world without conscience, and the burden of saving her entire Network.

Can Vittoria save her witches by focusing on what matters most? Or will the world of power and men cast her aside like the lavanda maid she was raised to be?

THE HIGH PRIESTESS is the first novel in the Historical Collection. This exhilarating tale of first love and tyranny will sweep you to a new place.

Loved It!

This book is very inspiring! It encourages me to reach inside and be all that I am and more. It creates inspiration to be courageous in our daily lives and to not shy away from things that seem bigger than we feel, even in the political arena. You never know what a difference you can make. One step at a time! Great job Katie!

Wow! I feel like I just finished watching an awesome movie that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! So many unexpected twists and turns. So many emotions and suspense. I feel this is my favorite book by Katie Cross so far! Make sure you have time set aside. You won't be able to put it down.

Absolutely brilliant start to this new series

Wow. What a brilliant read this is. I can't even begin to describe the plot there is so much happening. An evil father. Two brothers. A dead mother. A beautiful woman. Living in poverty. Spies. Guardians. Rebels. Witches. Need I go on? As I said there is heaps going on. What a fantastic beginning to a new series. Love this author.

A Wonderful, Engrossing New Saga

Make sure you carve out a block of uninterrupted time, because once you begin "The High Priestess," you are not going to want to put it down until you finish. The novel grips you from the start, with fully-realized characters whom you care about almost immediately, and a plot that keeps you enthralled but guessing, with lots of surprises. This is a wonderful addition to the world of the Network Series and the Dragonmaster Trilogy, set in the Eastern Network at a time before both of those other timelines. "The High Priestess" shares the world of Alkarran magic of the other two series, along with the system of gods and goddesses, with a new group of “Givers” particular to this story. It is a truly moving, satisfying tale of political conflict, personal grit, and love. You will care for the central characters and wish for their success, as they face obstacles that they could not anticipate and grow as a result of working to meet those challenges. I recommend beginning this over a weekend, though, because you won’t want to stop reading until the end. "The High Priestess" is truly wonderful.

Beginnings

I've read most of Katie Cross' books, and I have to say this one sucked me in INSTANTLY. As the initial book of the historical series, it is fitting to start in the East; mythological systems identify the East with beginnings (helloooo, rising sun!) throughout human history.

If you've already started with "Miss Mabel's School for Girls", you'll know something about the 'modern' Eastern Network. The traditions discussed in that series have their origin story told in this book. The precedents set here, carry through in all the books (thank you, continuity!!), and also tie into Cross' latest book, "The Lost Magic", just released. And yet, this book can completely stand on its own.

The main characters here are, as usual, well- drawn. The plot twists, as usual, come out of nowhere. And, as usual, I am left hungry for more!

I don't plot-spoil; read this book!!
